Steven Garrish
Vice President, Safety & Compliance, Old Dominion Freight Line

Steven Garrish currently serves as Vice President – Safety and Compliance for Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc., a position he has held since July 2021. Mr. Garrish supports the preparation and training of ODFL’s workforce of more than 22,000-plus employees, including more than 11,000 truck drivers. He oversees ODFL’s regulatory compliance at a federal and state level, including DOT and OSHA regulations.

Mr. Garrish has more than 25 years of experience in safety leadership and the transportation industry, including leading large commercial fleets. Most recently, he led CRST International as the Vice President of Safety and in leadership positions for Walmart Transportation and JB Hunt. While with Walmart Transportation, Mr. Garrish helped design and implement a driver fatigue management program that has been modeled by several carriers nationwide. Mr. Garrish served in the U.S. Military from 1989 – 1997 as a combat medic for the Army reserves.

As a leader in transportation safety, Mr. Garrish is an active member of several industry organizations, including the American Trucking Associations’ Safety Management Council, the American Transportation Research Institute, and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance. In 2021, Mr. Garrish was appointed Vice-Chair of the Driver Recruitment, Retention, and Health and Wellness Committee for the Safety Management Council. He is passionate about highway safety and sharing best practices and protocols across the transportation industry. Mr. Garrish developed safety management professionals throughout his career that move into leadership and management positions for commercial truck fleets.

Mr. Garrish is a Certified Transportation Professional and Certified Director of Safety. He has an undergraduate degree from Georgia Southern University and a Master’s degree in business administration from John Brown University. He is married to his wife Tammy, and together they have three children. He enjoys fishing, cycling, hiking, golf, and serving his community.
