Gary L. McCarthy is the Head of First Responder Policy at Aurora, a company building the next-generation of self-driving vehicles with powerful, independent, and robust technology.
After over 25 years in Law Enforcement, Mr. McCarthy transitioned to working with Autonomous Vehicles in 2020 and joined Aurora in 2021.
Mr. McCarthy served the State of Arizona, beginning in 1994 as a Police Officer, promoting to Bureau Chief before his retirement in 2020. Much of his career was traffic safety focused, including investigating serious and fatal crashes and working as a DUI and DRE/HGN Instructor. Mr. McCarthy also attended Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, class #208.
Mr. McCarthy is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, International Association of Fire Chief’s, National Sheriff’s Association and a member of the Law Enforcement Advisory Board for the American Trucking Association.
